Prince of Wales Visit
Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009
Ed and I have been on Prince of Wales since Sunday. Traveling on Sunday on the Inter-Island Ferry vessel, the MV Stikine, the short (2.5 hours) journey was made with barely a ripple on the water.
We have had a great time visiting with the residents here. We met with many of our current clients and established rapport with new ones. I am grateful to those island residents who embrace the TSS Company and support our endeavors for growth. Prince of Wales has such amazing beauty, although today was spent in rain, sun and snow, all within a span of a few short hours. Like many southeast residents, the folks here are wondering when spring will finally arrive.
While on POW, we made the Fireweed Lodge our home. Bob Anderson was a great host, with an absolutely beautiful lodge. This full service lodge is a “must stay” in my book. Tell him I sent you! What a pleasure it was to stay with one of our clients and enjoy their hospitality. You can visit them on their website at http://www.fireweedlodge.com
I also had a great visit with the City Administrator for the City of Klawock, Leslie Isaacs. This insightful city leader has got his game on. Witty and interesting, we had a wonderful conversation about, yep – you guessed it – drug testing. The City of Klawock has been a client of TSS for quite some time. It is always great to hear that our services are appreciated and the TSS staff provides everything they need. Ed and I enjoyed our time with Les and are anxious to visit with him again. Lots of history in the Klawock community and their totem park is gorgeous. Visit their website at http://www.cityofklawock.com
As always, we also had a good visit with Jon Boling, City Manager for the City of Craig. His pride in his community clearly shows as he talks of the great projects the city has happening. I am proud to represent this community in the drug testing arena. I was delighted to see a community garden being prepared for planting. I think this an exciting and worthwhile project. Bringing people together in a sustainable manner, which Craig has also done with using mill by-products to heat their pool and the adjacent school. They call this project the Wood Boiler Alternative Heating Project. The resourcefulness shows in this island community. Good work! You can learn more about this project and the others happening in Craig on the web at http://www.craigak.com
And SPECIAL THANKS to Stu Merchant of Forget-Me-Not Charters for stopping by to visit with us. Every day we learned more of what our customers need and want. An important part of what I do at TSS is to help you grow your business, in the most expeditious and cost effective manner. The economy of our nation depends on small businesses like those in Southeast Alaska to keep things rolling. It is evident on Prince of Wales, that with good planning, collaboration and strong sense of community, growth can and does happen. Their hard work shows.
